Josh Taveras Launches Grassroots Campaign to Fight for NY-2

Josh Taveras Launches Bold, People-Powered Campaign for NY-2

Long Island just got a new voice in the fight for working-class families, immigrant justice, and bold progressive change. Josh Taveras, a first-generation Dominican-American, LGBTQ+ candidate, and lifelong Long Islander, has launched his grassroots campaign to represent New York’s 2nd Congressional District.

Josh’s story is one of survival and determination. Raised in Copiague after the tragic death of his father and while caring for his terminally ill mother with Huntington’s disease, Josh faced poverty, food insecurity, and the emotional weight of adulthood far too early. But these struggles didn’t define him — they fueled him.

After years of being pushed to the margins, Josh is stepping into the political arena to give voice to the communities who have long been ignored. His campaign rejects corporate PAC money and instead runs on the belief that everyday people deserve a seat at the table.

“We’re building a movement that’s unapologetically for the people,” said Josh. “For the student riding the bus because they can’t afford a car. For the mother working two jobs to make rent. For the LGBTQ+ teen wondering if they’ll ever be accepted. That’s who I’m fighting for.”

Josh’s platform centers around real solutions:

  • Free public transportation for students and seniors

  • Rent stabilization and affordable housing protections

  • Climate justice and green job creation

  • Universal healthcare and reproductive rights

  • Protections for immigrant families under threat from ICE

  • Automatic voter registration and Election Day as a national holiday

The campaign has already begun gaining momentum online, especially among Gen Z and first-time voters. With fresh energy, fearless messaging, and a deep love for Long Island, Josh is proving that a new kind of politics is possible.

Supporters can get involved by donating, volunteering, and spreading the word through social media or in their own communities.

“This is about us — our stories, our struggles, our future. Together, we’re not just running. We’re rising.”
