Josh Taveras on ICE Raids, Family Separation, and the Need for Sanctuary in NY-2
Right now, immigrant families across Long Island are living in fear. ICE raids are ramping up in our communities, without warning, without cause, and without a single word from our current leaders. Families are being torn apart in the middle of the night. Children are waking up to find their parents gone.
And the silence from our representatives, including Andrew Garbarino, is deafening.
As the son of Dominican immigrants, I understand that fear. I’ve lived it. I’ve translated for my parents in government offices. I’ve watched neighbors disappear. And I’ve seen firsthand how our communities suffer when we’re treated as disposable.
That’s why I’m calling for emergency action, and real sanctuary policies for NY-2.
🛡️ My Pledge for Protection
If elected, I will fight to make NY-2 a Sanctuary District that refuses to cooperate with ICE’s cruel and unconstitutional actions. That means:

Ending local law enforcement cooperation with ICE

Protecting undocumented residents from unlawful detention or deportation

Expanding legal aid and emergency housing for impacted families

Creating a rapid-response community defense network

Refusing to allow ICE access to our schools, hospitals, or places of worship
ICE operates on silence, confusion, and fear. I will shine a light on their tactics, and I will fight to end them.

I am the only candidate in this race willing to speak out while others hide. I will not stay silent while my neighbors are hunted, harassed, and made to feel like strangers in their own homes.
